Infernus Devlog #1
So, I recently came across Unity Play's Struckd Studio, a browser-based game engine utilising Unity's assets to sort of provide an entry level dive into game development without the use of coding. Me and my partner played around for a while with this tool. We worked with whatever resources and assets were available, and this is what we came up with.
A little demo of sorts for a multiplayer deathmatch FPS set in a barren, rocky planet oozing with red hot lava and perpetual rainstorm. There are gun-blasting astronauts and then there are heat-resistant zombies that grow in size each time they get a kill. The demo is nowhere near balanced, and tends to get pretty intense pretty fast if you're playing as an astronaut - although I must confess that makes for some fun gameplay. However, I believe it establishes the environment, tone and mood exactly as intended - and that is what I believe to be Struckd's biggest strength. Despite the limitations it has, I think Struckd Studio is a gentle introduction to Unity, and is definitely worth a try.
Oh, and here's the project if you want to give it a playthrough. With this demo out there, I think we have the idea for an FPS game emerging, so the next thing to do is open up Unity and start making something out of this idea - hence this devlog. Let's see where things go.
